Omacor是一种浓缩的ω-3脂肪酸产品。与典型的含30%ω-3脂肪酸的鱼油产品比较，Omacor含85%DHA和EPA。脂肪酸均以乙酯的形式提供，这样每个胶囊内的含量可以达到较高的浓缩。
对Omacor在严重的高甘油三酯血症（500～2000mg/dl）的病人中的长期效应进行了研究，在一项双盲、安慰剂、随机、持续4个月的试验中，安慰剂组接受花生油，Omacor组接受每日4个胶囊（3，4gω-3脂肪酸）。
*组1（n=8）用安慰剂4个月，然后用Omacor（每日2g）6个月。
*组2（n=6）用安慰剂4个月，然后用Omacor（每日4g）6个月，
*组3（n=6）开始用Omacor（每日4g）4个月，然后用Omacor（每日2g）6个月。

接受Omacor（每日4g）共6个月的组中，甘油三酯水平比其基线水平下降了43%。由于极低密度脂蛋白（VLDL）下降而总胆固醇水平也下降，VLDL下降幅度足以代偿LDL比正常增加32%的作用。LDL从不正常的增高降至正常。同时看到HDL增高了18%。
每日2g Omacor对血清脂质和脂蛋白的影响（n=14）不如每日4g的作用强，但已能显著地降低甘油三酯（25%），这个幅度仅为每日4g受试组所出现效果的一半。这显示了ω-3脂肪酸的剂量效应关系。LDL的升高无统计学意义，HDL升高（14%）类似于每日4g者。
总之，Omacor每日两个胶囊或每日4个胶囊在6～10个月内均耐受良好。仅有很小的副作用为嗳气，若在睡前服用则可控制这种现象。概括起来说，每日服2g者，甘油三酯下降25%；HDL升高14%；LDL无变化；每日服用4g者，甘油三酯下降43%；HDL升高18%；LDL增加32%；但平均值仍在低危范围内（2.8mmol/l）。Omacor对严重的高甘油三酯血症的试验结果显示是一种即安全又有效的治疗。
在CAD的动物模型上，ω-3脂肪酸显示有抗动脉硬化的作用。Weiner等用猪做实验，每日给予大约2汤匙鳕鱼肝油并同时给予致硬化的饮食。经8个月后，杀死动物观察其冠状动脉的病变情况，发现给鱼肝油的动物比对照组发生动脉硬化的量显著减少。
