性状：
本品为阴离子表面活性剂，能降低肠道内液体的表面张力，口服后在肠内可使水和脂肪类物质浸入粪便，促其软化，一般在服后1-2d显效。本品尚有轻微杀菌和杀精子作用。
作用与作用机制：
口服可从胃肠道吸收，由胆汁排出。
药动学：
长期服用可引起腹泻。部分末代谢的药物可由乳汁排泌，增加哺乳婴儿的肠蠕动而导致腹泻，因此授乳妇女慎用。恶心、呕吐、肠梗阻、腹痛者禁用。
注意事项：
本品和其他药物合用时，能增加其他药物在胃肠道吸收或肝脏的摄取，从而增强这些药物的效应或毒副作用，如与丹蒽酮合用可产生肝损伤和白细胞减少症，并应忌与矿物油合用。
临床应用：
口服：成人50-200mg/d，分次服用，最大剂量不超过500mg/d，服药1-3d后产生效应；儿童每日5mg/kg，分多次服用。
用法计量：
胶囊剂：60mg／粒；片剂：60mg/片。

Dulcoease Stool Softener 30 Capsules provides relief when bowel movement is painful or difficult, if you are constipated or suffer from piles or anal fissure. DulcoEase softens hard, dry stools by increasing their absorption of natural fluids. Also may be used before an abdominal x-ray.

Dulcoease Stool Softener 30 Capsules is designed to make going to the loo more comfortable again. It works by gently softening hard, dry stools, making it easier to go. People often say that they can go to the loo, it just hurts when they do. This is where DulcoEase can help.
Dulcoease Stool Softener 30 Capsules helps your stool absorb some of the body's natural fluids. It does this by decreasing the surface tension of the stool, and takes one or two days to start working. Dulcoease Stool Softener 30 Capsules shows no suggestion of being habit forming. It can also be used when you have haemorrhoids or anal fissure, to soften hard, dry stools and help ease the pain and straining when going to the loo. It may be used, where needed, as a stool softener, alongside standard pain-relieving haemorrhoid remedies, and laxatives.
What is Dulcoease?
Dulcoease is a stool softener that effectively softens hard stools for an easier, more comfortable way to go to the loo.
It is especially helpful if you are suffering from constipation, piles or anal fissure.
How does it work?
Dulcoease contains the active ingredient docusate sodium.
Docusate sodium decreases the surface tension of the stool, which allows more water and salts to be absorbed, making the stool softer. Each soft gel capsule contains 100mg of docusate sodium. Dulcoease also contains macrogol 400, propylene glyrol, gelatin, glycerol, sorbitol, titanium dioxide (E171), water and colours (E104, E110).
Is Dulcoease right for me?
Dulcoease is a suitable choice if you find you are straining when passing bowel movements or/and you are passing harder or drier stools than usual.
It is also recommended if you are suffering from haemorrhoids or anal fissures as softer stools will cause less pain and discomfort when you go to the loo.
Dulcoease can also be used alongside most other laxatives.
How often should I take Dulcoease?
Dulcoease can be taken up to 5 times per day, but most people find that 3 per day is usually sufficient.
How long does Dulcoease take to work?
Dulcoease has a gradual effect and usually takes around 2 days to take its full effect.
Can Dulcoease help with piles?
Dulcoease does not directly treat piles, but because it softens stools it can make piles much easier to cope with. For specific piles treatments, see our piles page.
When should I not take Dulcoease?
If you suffer from abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting or intestinal obstructions, you should seek medical advice.
If you have had a reaction to Dulcoease, then you should seek medical advice before taking it again. Do not take if you are taking mineral oil or are allergic to fructose.
What else can I do besides taking Dulcoease?
Drinking plenty of water and eating foods with plenty of fibre (such as fruit and vegetables) will help you to pass looser, softer stools.
Will Dulcoease make my bowel movements more frequent?
Dulcoease helps to produce stools with a higher water content, so you may find that your stools become more bulky more quickly. You are also more likely to pass stools sooner after
eating than you would normally, but this is a good thing as it is unhealthy to have lots of stool inside you, it is better to pass it out quicker!
What if Dulcoease does not work?
If Dulcoease is not working for you, the first thing to do is to check that you are following the instructions correctly.
You need to take up to 5 capsules per day with water, at regular intervals. You also need to drink plenty of water and eat a high-fibre diet.
If you still find your stools hard to pass, it may be that you need something stronger like a laxative. In this case, you may like to try Dulcolax, from the makers of Dulcoease.
