Cerazette is a contraceltive mini-pill which is 99% effective in preventing pregnancy. It differs from the combined pill as it contains only synthetic progestogen, and not estrogen. The active agent is desogestrel and unlike other mini-pills, it prevents ovulation. The universal mini-pill does not stop ovulation, but its action is based on the change of cervical mucus and uterine lining. Cerazette is one of the most successful mini-pills available.
Cerazette is as effective as any combined pill, but without using artificial estrogen. This makes them much safer for women who are breastfeeding, over the age of 35 or smokers. They can be taken up to 12 hours later than usual, while other tablets should always be taken at the same time of day.
