It is principally used to treat kidney and intestinal cancers. Sutent is a receptor protein-tyrosine kinase inhibitor and also an angiogenesis inhibitor, which inhibits the actions of vascular endothelial growth factor (also abbreviated VEGF). Cancer cells have abnormal rates of growth and multiply at rates that are different than normal cells. Sutent interferes with the ability of cancer cells to multiply and grow, thereby reducing the total number of cells and helping to stop their spread throughout the body. What are the side effects of using Sutent (Sunitinib)? Side effects associated with the use of Sutent may include mild nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation or loss of appetite, headache, joint or muscle pain, changes in hair color or texture, and strange tastes in the mouth. More severe side effects are possible and may include shortness of breath, significant weakness and feeling faint, swelling in limbs or face, chest pain or pressure, fatigue, numbness or tingly feeling anywhere in the body, confusion, bruising, white patches or sores in and on the mouth, vomiting or coughing of blood or material that looks like wet coffee grounds, and redness or peeling rash on the hands or soles of your feet. Contact your doctor immediately if you experience these or any other unusual symptoms while using this medicine. Allergic reactions are possible when receiving this drug and include a sudden rash, itchiness or swelling of the skin, mouth, or throat, and difficulty breathing. If you suspect an allergic reaction while taking Sutent, seek emergency medical care. What precautions are advised when using Sutent (Sunitinib)? Receiving Sutent may weaken your body’s immune system, so avoid people who have colds, the flu, or other infections. There are various drugs that can interfere with the way Taxotere works in your body including certain anti-fungals and antibiotics, corticosteroids, other cancer medicines, immunosuppressants, seizure medicines, and any herbal or other nutritional supplements you may be taking. Discuss these with your doctor. Women who are pregnant or nursing should not take Sunitinib unless specifically prescribed by their doctor. Women taking this medicine are advised against becoming pregnant because this drug could harm an unborn baby. What happens with an overdose of Sutent (Sunitinib)? Overdoses with Sutent may include chills, tremors, stomach pain, weakness, or any of the severe side effects listed previously. Contact a doctor right away if you suspect you have received an overdose of this drug.   Sutent Intake Guidelines Patients are recommended to ask their personal healthcare provider to explain them exactly how they should take Sutent. It is recommended to listen and remember all of the doctor’s instructions. If the patients do not understand one or more of the doctor’s recommendations they should ask him again or contact a pharmacist for more information. Every dose of Sutent must be taken with at least two quarts of fluid in order to avoid an upset stomach. Persons who are under treatment with this medicine should avoid drinking, should have an equilibrate diet and often wash their hands. Patients who are taking this medicine have a high risk of infection this is why it is recommended to avoid crowded places, people with colds.
