Effects of this medicine
This medicine is a selective H1-receptor antagonist and also has an antiallergic effect by inhibiting the release of allergy-inducing substances such as histamine.
Usually, this medicine is used to treat allergic rhinitis, urticaria, and pruritus due to skin diseases (eczema, dermatitis, pruritus cutaneous).
Before using this medicine, tell your doctor/pharmacist
•If you have ever had any unusual or allergic reaction (itch, rash etc.) to any medicines.
If you have liver disease or a history of liver disease.
•If you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
•If you are using any other prescription or nonprescription (OTC) medicine. (It is important to reduce the risk of drug interactions.)
Dosage regimen (proper use of this medicine)
•Your dosage regimen is:(order of your doctor)
•General dosage regimen: Allergic rhinitis, Usually for children, 0.025-0.05g/kg (0.25-0.5mg/kg of epinastine hydrochloride) is orally administered once daily by dissolving the medicine in water just before use. Standard daily dosage for children aged between 3 to 6: 0.5-1g(5-10mg of epinastine hydrochloride), for children aged 7 or above: 1-2g(10-20mg).
Asthma and skin diseases such as urticaria and eczema, Usually for children, 0.05g/kg (0.5mg/kg of epinastine hydrochloride) is orally administered once daily by dissolving the medicine in water just before use. Standard daily dosage for children aged between 3 to under 7: 1g(10mg), aged 7 or above: 2g(20mg).
The dosage may be adjusted according to patient's age and severity of symptoms. For either condition, it should not exceed 2g of dry syrup (20mg of epinastine hydrochloride). Follow your doctor's instructions.
•Missed dose: If you are ordered to take this medicine on regular schedule and you missed a dose, take as soon as possible. If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and continue your regular dosing schedule. DO NOT take a double dose to make up for the missed dose.
•Overdose: If you took too much of this medicine (more than ordered), check with your doctor/pharmacist.
•Others: Do not stop taking this medicine without the instructions of your doctor.
Precautions while using this medicine
•Use caution when operating machinery or engaging in hazardous activities. This medicine may cause drowsiness. Parents of children taking this medicine should pay close attention to the safety of their childrens' activities.
Side effects of this medicine
Common side effects are reported as below. If any of them occurs, check with your doctor/pharmacist: drowsiness, headache, bitter taste, edema (face, limbs), rash, urticaria, itching, erythema, frequent urination.
In rare cases, symptoms described below may be the sign of side effects indicated in brackets [ ]. If they occur, stop taking your medicine and check with your doctor immediately.
•generalized fatigue, loss of appetite, yellowness of the skin or conjunctiva[hepatic dysfunction, jaundice]
•nose bleeding, gum bleeding, subcutaneous bleeding of the hands and feet (bruise)[thrombocytopenia]
