Teveten HCT is a combination medication consisting of eprosartan (a blood pressure lowering agent) and hydrochlorothiazide (a diuretic or "water pill"). It is used to treat high blood pressure, alone or in combination with other blood pressure medications. What is the most important information I should know about Teveten HCT? Do not use Teveten HCT during the second or third trimester of pregnancy. This drug can cause injury and even death to the developing baby. Tell your doctor immediately if you think you might be pregnant. You must take Teveten HCT regularly for it to be effective. Since blood pressure declines gradually, it may be several weeks before you get the full benefit of Teveten HCT. You must continue taking it even if you are feeling well. Teveten HCT does not cure blood pressure, but keeps it under control. Teveten HCT can cause an excessive drop in blood pressure, especially when you first begin taking it. Tell your doctor if you feel lightheaded or faint. If you do faint, stop taking Teveten HCT until you see your doctor. Fainting is more likely if you are dehydrated, due to inadequate intake of fluids, excessive sweating, diarrhea, or vomiting. Excessive fluid loss can also lead to a chemical imbalance in the body.
